The True Superheroes

Posted in Uncategorized on October 30, 2008 by jaredreibms

Veterans. The true superheros of America. The men and women who put their lives at stake to insure our well being. I think we should remember and honor veterans because they put their lives in danger to protect us and preserve our way of life.

Veterans sacrifice their lives to protect our country. I think going to war is the greatest sacrifice. Soldiers go to war and put there lives in jeopardy to preserve our country and our freedom to live the American lifestyle. Another sacrifice a soldier has to make is that they have to leave their families behind when they go off to war. They leave their own families to make sure other families in America have a better future. Also soldiers may have to go through losing a friend in the war. For example, two soldiers could have been best friends in high school. Then one of them dies in war. The family of the son who has died has to make sacrifices. That affects a lot of people connected to that family.

Families sacrifice their sons and daughters to the war. Even families with single children are drafted into the war. The father and mother lose their “baby” to a war. Emotions affect the whole family. During World War 1-2 food rationing was a big sacrifice for families. Families had to ration for food and essential goods to support the war effort. Having a child go off to war is very emotional for mothers and fathers, especially siblings. The family breaks apart by a son or daughter going to war and that leaves a wound in the family. The wound in the family can only be healed if the child returns home safely.

For soldiers to become superheroes they have to go through extensive training. Soldiers have to go through, not only physical training with guns, but they have to go through mental training. They have to learn how not to panic in crucial situations. They have to be calm and at the same time, focused.

During war, families make many sacrifices. One of the greatest sacrifices a family can make is having a loved one go off to war. We need to honor, not just the soldiers who go to war, but especially their families at home.

Dreaming of Coffee

Posted in Uncategorized on October 17, 2008 by jaredreibms

This woman, this very mysterious woman sits in a coffee shop waiting, waiting, waiting… She finally looks up to see that she had no reason to wait any longer. There he was, standing in the doorway, looking as if he were posing for a picture in a magazine. She got up to greet the man, her palms starting to get sweatier as they got closer.

She said a nice, “Hello, nice to meet you.” That was all she could get out of her constricting throat.

This unusual man responded, “Nice to meet you too.” The pale faced woman was surprised to find that this man had a deep voice. She had only communicated with him through e-mail. As she was lost in this stranger’s blue eyes, he talked non stop about how excited and so antsy he was to see her all day. She couldn’t reply. She felt like she forgot how to talk. She just drifted into space, out of the dark window and into the clouds. Floating, floating, floating, into Heaven.

As she was drifting away she felt the comfort of the man’s voice. She looked to the side of her to find that he was right next to her.

She blushed and said, “Why have you come with me?”

He responded quickly saying, “I will always be at your side, forever and ever.”

At that moment this women knew that she had found him. She had found the perfect man who, she knew would be at her side forever. She had no reason to wait for the right man to come along. That man was now at her side.

She looked into his eyes and said, “I will return the favor and be at you side every moment of my life. I will never leave you. Through thick and thin, we will fight obstacles together. I want to go through my life with you and I will not take no for an answer.”

He just looked at her, stunned. “I don’t know what to say?” he said.

“Just say, yes!” she said with excitement.

“Yes, I will be true to you and I want to be by your side for eternity. We will go on a journey through life and be united as one forever.”

She then felt a light tap on her shoulder, which startled her back into reality. She turned her gaze away from the window to see that the waiter was right in front of her.

“Would you like some more coffee?” The waiter asked.

The strong aroma of coffee hung in the air.

The Breaking Wave

Posted in Metaphor Poem on October 2, 2008 by jaredreibms

I am a surfboard gliding on a wave

Gently going with the flow of the water

Cutting a path as I carry on

The wave breaks

I am in the curl of a teal colored wall

Knowing I will find my way

There is an opening in the wall

Destiny is brought to me

I follow the right path
